U.P. Red Cross Youth (UPRCY)
Basic Info
Write-up
The University of the Philippines Red Cross Youth is one of the youth councils of the Philippine National Red Cross-Quezon City Chapter. The organization was founded in September of the academic year 1992-1993. The triad of Butch Ong, Noel Quiba, and Nols del Rosario spearheaded its establishment.
The beginnings of the org were closely tied with the activities of the UP ROTC Medic cadets. Since then it has expanded to include members from other sectors of the academe.
The UP Red Cross Youth seeks to promote the fundamental principles of the Red Cross Movement – humanity, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. Now on it’s twelfth year, UPRCY continues to develop among the youth the spirit of humanitarianism and social service by giving them opportunities to participate in relevant Red Cross activities. UPRCY holds circumcision missions, medical and dental missions, bloodlettings and other community development projects in depressed communities in Quezon City and other areas. UPRCY members are also trained in standard first aid. UPRCY conducts first aid training and demos to interested sectors in the UP community.
